Recently I logged in to the Discovery Education site and found a little tool I think might be of interest. As a teacher, I always tried to give my students context and an appreciation of what came before so that they had an understanding of the past and how it influences the present. When you log into the Discovery Education website, on the right side of the main page, you’ll see an “On This Day” box with a category and a date.
Clicking on that date will give more information about the topic and the category. However, if you click on the “View Full Calendar” link, you will see a calendar with all the available categories. Clicking on each category will show you a different historical fact based on that category. Clicking further into the topic will also list streaming videos that can be used to support this event or fact. This could be a great beginning of class activity or used as a journaling topic for students. Regardless, it’s well worth a look.
