Thoughts from David Warlick…

February 6th, 2007

Interesting Reflections by David Warlick on a session he sat in on.  In this post he responds to common misconceptions about student use of technology and the reactions that many adults have to that use.  Here’s a excerpt.

I would like to say just a few things in response to a session I sat through in the afternoon.

  • 1 in 5 teenagers have not been sexually solicited by online predators, nor is the Internet full of sexual predators.
  • Cell phones are not dangerous!
  • IM is not insidious!
  • MySpace is not a blog!
  • and just because a child prefers that her parents not read her chat messages over her shoulder does not necessarily mean that she’s doing anything wrong.

Cyber-safety is too important an issue to be misrepresented for the sake of scare impact.

Another new tool?

February 6th, 2007

In a recent training session from CSD I learned about a new tool for keeping your bookmarks online.  I’ve been using del.icio.us for my bookmarks but I’m looking for a new tool.  ikeepbookmarks.com is not it.  There are a number of things that bother me about this site.  First and foremost, there is no RSS feed.  I want to be able to subscribe to others bookmarks to take advantage of the networks of which I am a part.  Here are some of my current subscriptions as well as a link to a page of technology links created by CSD
